A driver travels down the road at 10.0 m/s along a straight road.  She then depresses the accelerator and increases her speed at a rate of 2.50 m/s^2.  How fast will the car be moving as it passes a parked police car 100 m away?

and…for one that is a bit harder.

Ed, the leading runner in a race taking place along a straight stretch of road, is traveling at his top speed of 10 m/s.  He has been 4 m in front of Harry, his chief rival, for the last 10 s.  But aware that Ed will hit the finish line in 20 s, Harry puts on a burst of speed.  At what constant rate must he accelerate if he’s not to lose the race?

A .32 caliber bullet fired from a revolver with a 3-in long barrel will have a relatively low muzzle speed of 200 m/s.  If it’s shot straight up, neglecting air resistance,
a) what is the peak height the bullet will reach?
b) How fast will it be moving when it returns to the height of the gun?
c) How long will the whole trip take?
